Tamar Youth - Discussion circles

Round table discussions took place this week among a peer group of youth on topics concerning Breast Cancer Awareness Week and the late Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day.

Acknowledgement of wellness and self-awareness are of vital importance amoung the youth of today.  Breast Cancer awareness week took place this October and the youth of the Ein Gedi boarding school took it seriously by posting pink ribbons around the community, posters on public buildings and finally round table discussions amongst the female sector of the Ein Gedi Kibbutz.  This topic probably seems extemely alien to them, how many of us 'oldies' have said in the past "it won't happen to me" or "they will find a cure soon"!?

The importance of keeping this topic awake and on the headlines is of vital importance as we all know, so well done to the youth who took it sersiously enough to learn about it, discuss and pass the message on to one and all.

In order to empower this momentum the group will meet twice a month and each discuss a different but no less important subject relevant to adolescent young ladies. The girls showed that they understand completly the power they have in their hands to change, influence and raise awareness on various issues concerning health, wellbeing and good lives.

Just a few days later the youth (male and female) were back at the tables discussing a historical matter that changed the face of the State of Israel - the assisination of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, 26 years ago. The discussions were led and co-organized by the Ein Gedi boarding school and youth centre.  The conversations emphasized the conflicts in the Israeli society today and the repercussions of the assissination on today's youth.  The tables were occupied with senior members of the kibbutz and young pre- military service youth who reside in the kibbutz for one year before their enrollment.

Such important steps for the future of us all.
