In an exciting development, Tamar has earned third place in a national competition for switching to solar power. The small community has made impressive strides, with a remarkable 53% increase in solar panel installations on building rooftops over the past year.

But what does this actually mean for residents?

Think of it as putting your roof to work! By installing solar panels, building residents can:

    – Make money by generating their own electricity

    – Help keep the air clean by using pollution-free energy

    – Have a backup power source during blackouts

    Eli Cohen

“This is a win-win for everyone,” says Energy Minister Eli Cohen. “Residents can earn extra income while helping the environment, and they’ll have power even during emergencies.”

The bigger picture is even more impressive. Across Israel, more people than ever are embracing solar power, with enough new panels installed in 2023 to power about 100,000 homes. That’s like covering 4,500 dunams (about 1,112 acres) with solar panels, but instead of taking up ground space, they’re sitting on otherwise unused rooftops!

    Nir Wanger

Nir Wanger, Tamar’s Council Head, couldn’t be prouder. “This shows how our community is leading the way in creating a cleaner, more innovative future,” he says.

The government is making it easier than ever for communities to go solar by:

    – Cutting through red tape and removing paperwork requirements

    – Offering financial incentives

    – Providing expert guidance to help communities make the switch

With Tamar showing what’s possible, more communities across Israel are looking up to their roofs and seeing a brighter, cleaner future ahead.
